Oliver 88D injector pump timing

A friend of mine has an Oliver 88 diesel. He needs to know the proper procedure and the setting for static timing on the injector pump.

The tractor has a Waukesha engine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Gary has it correct. Attached is a posting by Paul Stanley which is verbatum from the service manual that might be of help if the pump was removed and is being reinstalled.

The mark in the pipe plug hole on the front cover is hard to see, but you must find it and see it clearly!

There should be a FP on the flywheel which you line up with a pointer in the inspection whole. Then take out the 1/2 inch pipe plug in the timing cover which is directly over the gear which drives the pump. With these lined up put the bolts in the front of the gear which holds it to the front of the shaft. I don't remember whither these can be off 180 degrees or not but if you take the 2 bolts out of the rectangular cover on the side of the pump you will find some timing marks but it will be off a tooth when the the others are all lined up, but this is #1 Also be sure #1 is on compression stroke
