Fellow Corn Belters will know that torrential rain has made mowing an every other day activity. My 550 has developed an annoying habit of stalling when hot. I'm wondering if it is a) vapor lock caused by fuel line proximity to hot engine or b) too much time with governor wide open. It can be induced to continue running by pulling and releasing the choke, and will eventually smooth out and run if the PTO is disengaged. Has anyone tried rigging a heat shield for the fuel line?

We had the same trouble years back and also thought heat was the problem. The problem was probaby restriction in the old line though. I ended up replacing the hard fuel line. I made one with long sweeping 90 deg. bends instead of the sharp bends. Also ran the new line inside a piece of 1/2" or so rubber line as conduit. Not sure if this does much as a heat shield or not. Larger diam. line might allow enough air space to be more effective. An in line filter was added as well. No problems since, even running a 7'rotary mower on hot days.

Could also be that the gas cap isn't vented. My 1600 did the same thing. the way to tell is when it bogs down open the cap and see if it catches up again. if thats the problem drill a small hole in one location in the top, and another small hole in a different location in the bottom. Good luck. Don
