I recently purchased an Oliver 550 with a seat problem. The rubber spring and all the pins and bushings are badly worn. This seat is unuseable as it is. I plan on using this tractor to mow 8 acres of grass every week, so a good comfortable seat is a must. Any suggestions on this matter?? I wouldn't mind an aftermarket seat as long as there is no interference with controls, Oil filling areas or hitch arms.A new Oliver seat or one in Primo condition would be great. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks BB in Western PA

There is an outfit out there named Minn-Kota (not trolling motors) that make after market rubber seat bushings. The cost is approx. $110. Check the Oliver Archives for Minn-kota to get the contact info.

As for me, I am cheap and as such took the easy way out. My rubber bushing was shot and I seemed to be riding on the top of the hyd. unit. What I did was bought three springs. They are 5" long by 2" wide. I brazed these springs in a triangle to the bottom of the seat . The free end of the springs sits atop the hyd unit. When I sit down the springs absorb much of my weight and provide a more cushioned ride.

One day after Mrs. ShepFL's Taj Mahal (new house) is finished I will remove the springs and replace the rubber bushing.

Still chuggin' in the weeds . . .
