I have a '47 Oliver 70 Standard that is ready to start. Is this a 6 volt system? Positive ground? It has a generator that is stamped 12 volt but is obviously not the original. What do I try? Thanks in advance for your help.

Also check your ignition coil if you don't have a magneto on this tractor. Sounds like it has been switched to 12 volt, but the coil should tell you for sure.

yes it,s 6 volt pos ground. sounds like someone switched it over to 12 volt.i would keep it 12 volt all ready.just slip in a 12 volt battery make sure you have a correct 12 volt regulator hooked up right,it should be a quick starting sys

yes it is most likely a positive ground unless the generator is stamped otherwise. The starter really dosen't care about the voltage it just runs faster on 12 volt. However if you have 6 volt lights the bulbs will pop as soon as you turn them on with 12 volts. If the generator is putting out 12 volts and you use a 6 volt battery you will cook the battery in short order. good luck, John
