Going to replace bad mag on my 80 RC with a rebuilt one. Can anybody give me advice on what to line up before removing old one, and what marks on the rebuilt one to look for. Thanks for any help.

Replacing mag with another will either be approximately right timing or 180 degrees out.
If window in mags are readable, then you should be able to remove and replace the mags with same cylinder indicated. Plug leads should then be as original mag. Final accurate timing will be done with the engine running by (in the old days) sparking No 1 lead to illuminate the timing mark on the flywheel, at rated engine speed, visible through the small timing inspection hole. Using a timing strobe is more usual (and easier) these days. Before starting engine make sure that impulse coupling does not 'let-loose' before top dead centre as this can be painful or expensive if the engine kicks back - depending on whether it is trying to break your arm or the starter bendix!
Hope this helps, RAB
