I have a 550 (mdl 65-72038 sn186 372-019).Does anyone have an idea how the PTO assembly comes out? There is the actual PTO shaft, which goes into a hub or collar if you will. This hub is supported by a bearing and is surrounded by a lip seal. On the other end of this collar (inside trans)is the shaft that goes all the way thru to the pto clutch. According to the operators manual there is a field conversion package to convert it over to 1000rpm. If this is true the parts manual leads you to believe that you need to replace both shafts, the collar and the drive gear. I don't need to convert it only replace the o-ring between the collar and the shaft from the clutch. I pulled the retaining plate off of the end and pulled the set screw out of the clutch. There is supposed to be two, one on top of the other for locking, but I only had one. I can't for the life of me figure out whats holding it in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The only thing holding the shaft in position is the rear bearing and the set screw which keeps the PTO hub from sliding. The older models had 1 set screw about 5/8 long. the set screws on your hub should be 3/8 X 1/2 dog point and 3/8 X 3/16 hollow lock screw. A little force might be needed to move the shaft and when replacing the shaft do it gently and have some one hold the plates and discs in place other wise they will be pushed out of the hub. I have never seen an O ring on this part go bad as there is no stress or movment unless the roll pin is damaged. Whatever good luck

I can check my manuals tonite. I just got done mounting my drawbar and noticed I too have a leak. I will be tearing mine down also.

I had planned to do this later but will get the info and post.
