Hey all. I've come across an Oliver 550 Industrial that doesn't have PTO or 3-pt. Can these be added without too much trouble, provided the parts can be found? Anyone else tried doing this with success?

Thanks for your help.

Without too much trouble is a relative word. I have an industrial 550 and have looked at the same possibility. The three point set up is not that difficult. Mostly, the tranny top cover has to be removed and replaced with one fitted with the hydraulics and three point arms. The PTO is a different story. The tranny will have to be split and the front cover removed to expose the internals. Then, the entire PTO shaft, clutch spider and linkage has to be installed, including new seals etc. None of the above parts are cheap - even used. The easier way is to locate a complete transmission from an agricultural Super 55 or 550 and swap it (again, by splitting it at the center case section which is not that difficult). Then you have to swap out tires and brakes and other parts if necessary. If you do that, make sure that you transfer the ID plate from your original tractor, otherwise its model history will be lost. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Mike. I figured it would be tricky to do. Most likely I will pass on this tractor and find something with PTO already installed.
