the tractor sold yesterday for $4,000 with a fairly light crowd. The tractor was in great shape with no dents and had a "year round" cab, wheel weights, thousand rpm pto, and 4 remotes, all the tractor needed was a paint job to become a show piece.

I have a 2150 I bought for $1800.00It was missing 1 battery side cover and needed some cosmetic work and a paint job and new decals.A few seals fixed the oil leaks.and Ive been useing it while Ive been getting it ready to paint.I didnt buy it to sell I bought to use and to add to my collection, Ive been offered by several people to buy it for as much as $6500.00 as is with out painting it.I could probably get 8 or 9000 for it if I held out for the right buyer BUT I bought it with the intention of never selling it!!!!! !!!!

I look at it this way. It's not cheap HP The man that sold this tractor lost big money. When i buy something i buy it so when i sell or trade i can get good money for it. I lost to much money in the past buying Oliver,Case IH, AC,MM,MH,MF tractors. I can sell my 4020 in 2002 for as much money as i payed for it when i bought it used in 1976. I can sell my 620 for more money today them when i bought it. Thats mone in my bank!

Boys, I'm not knocking John Deere, International, Farmall, Case, New Holand, any of them. We farm w/ all of then
But boys when you look at the facts, who is still in business. John Deere hasn't ever been bought out, Oliver and everybody else has been, that speaks for itself. So when it comes to facts, who has had the most succes, and that company is the one making the money.

I think your comparing apples and oranges, why dont you look at the price of a good used 5010 (what a junker those are) to what the 2150 brought. A 4020 is a much more popular tractor, like a 990 oliver. Compare a popular Oliver tractor to a cheaper model of JD like a 3010 or 5010 or even a 4010. Every manfacture has certin models that are worth alot. So before you compare apples and oranges get the FACTS.

Now that's simplistic, poor logic. You have to figure in what the tractor makes for you as you use it, not just what you paid for it and what you can sell it for when you're done with it. This guy probably got use out of that tractor before he sold it, so he really didn't lose money. Just didn't make as much by selling it as if it had been a Deere. Of course, some guys need to buy stuff that sells high because they ain't got enough brains in their heads to make any money with the tractor while they own it.
Then I look at it this way--why should I, as a buyer, really give a damn if I bought it for $4000? That's probably what it would bring again if I sold it. But it seems like some guys think they're machinery jockeys, not farmers, and worry more about what the stuff will bring after they beat the crap out of it than they do about actually running their operation profitably. But, wait for the gummint check to come and resell the worn-out Deere, who needs to be a good manager? Incompetence is rewarded.

That's true. But my 4020 runs as good and looks better then when i bought it. And i made lots of money with it. The same for my 620. I can make money selling them, but i'm not going to sell. I have to much joy in owning them. It's also nice to know there worth good money.

Thank you for sharing your fantasies with all of us that are less fortunate than you. I only wish that I possessed your astute investment insights. I suspect you also have a seat on the NYSE and the CBOT. You are indeed a man to be envied. Best wishes and have a profitable day.

Hey, sorry about going off, but i hate the jd fans that mouth off with there comments without leaving a name. See, if you started with JD, you are good forever, you'll get your money back. Dad talks about days when he traded his 880 in for a 1650 and got more money for the 880 then what it sold for new. The farm economy sucks, so unless you got jd, you never get your money back. Also, sometimes you get a deal, sometimes you give a deal. Facts of life!

Hey J. I take care of all my machinery. I just sold a New Holland super 69 baler that my dad bought in 1961. I sold it at a auction. My baler was the only New Holland. Lots of IH and MF Some of them were as old as mine but most were much newer. Mine sold for the most money. Tell me why was this? I think i know! because it was a New Holland.

It pays to buy tractors, machinery,or anything with a good reputation. IH balers don't have a good reputation. New Holland balers do. When my dad baught the New Halland he tried a IH 46 baler. At the auction there were 2 IH 46 balers. They sold for $50 and $75 I got $425 for the NH. That's good for a old baler. A IH baler less then 15 years old sold for $250
I'm glad my dad bought the NH
