If I could afford it, I'd like to buy 8 or 10 of those new 1950-T's. Imagine, that would be like having a complete new old stock tractor! I'd like to hear more on the subject.

Careful what you wish for. Remember the Romanians took an other wise dependable Fiat tractror and turned it into a horrific series of machining errors with the worst fuel injector ever made. I have also heard that the Indians are building a Massey 35 clone that spontaneously looses about 75% of its purchase price the minute you haul it off the dealer lot.

The CBT tractors were Oliver 990's with sheet metal and grilles updated to resemble Checkerboard series tractors, and had Mercedes and some other kind of engines in them.

The CBT's were made in Brazil. The tractors were based on the Oliver 990/950 tractor. They used a Mercedes or a Brazilian built Perkins engine depending on when they were made. The Perkins engine does not look anything like the regular 354 we are used to seeing. The three point hitch system was a real pain to crawl over. Later models changed this but I am not sure what those tractors were based on.

Take care,
A.P.

CBT stands for Companhia Brasileira de Tratores ( Brazilian Tractor Company). They currently have their website under construction at Link (it is not yet accessible)

I haven't heard about that in particular, but it is very common for South American and Mexican companies to buy up old tooling and produce new product. Heck, they still make hundereds of thousands of the old Beetle cars for those markets!

Same with guns; they bought Colt's old machines and produced some respectable .45 & .22's
