I know I posted this before, but I am still wondering about my 1850 with the Perkins diesel pulling a 6-16", semi-mount, auto reset plow. I talked to a guy at a big Oliver dealer, and he said that the 1850 was advertised to pull a 6 bottom plow. I am just wondering what you guys think of this. The Oliver plow is know as an easy pulling plow. In my opinion, Oliver/White are the best plows made (Kneverland is suppose to be good too).

I pull 5-16 IH semi mounted with a 1855 and it's all the plow I want to pull.

it definatly depends on the soil in your area. where i live it would never happen ih 806's and jd 4020's worked hard to pull 5-16's and as they got older (and got away from molboarding everything) a lot of guys droped the 5th bottom of the plow to save wear on the tractor. look around in your area to see what they pull with similar HP tractors.if you realy want to buy a 6 bottom then do it,worst case you unbolt the last bottom and move the tail wheel and gauge wheel up 1 set of holes

Well, depends on a couple things. Is your Perkins tired or fresh. 92 hp out of the factory but if you know how to tune the pump, there's more power to be had. Assuming you're around 90 hp, the other big consideration is where you are plowing, in the lighter soils of the east or the heavier soils of the upper Midwest. My instincts tell me that you can pull that 6-16 in sand or sandy loam, but not in clay loam with 90 hp. For light soils you are okay, but if you're in heavy, black clay loam, you'll be going in second gear I think.
