Front End Loader

My dad just bought a Oliver 77 with a piece of land. The Tractor came with a front end loader. Did oliver make front end loaders or is this a different company that. The loader is red, attaches to the axle and has a roll bar looking piece that goes over the steering wheel. Can anyone help me out with what brand this is? If so, do they make service manuals for it? This tractor needs some love and I would only feel comfortable loving it with a manual for the different components.

Oliver did make some loaders, but most you're gonna find are aftermarket. Westendorf is one popular manufacturer around here, but the different brands and possibilities are almost endless. My 1755 when I bought it had an Allis Chalmers loader retrofitted to it, and it works fine. Some people make their own loader, which is also an option, but not too recomended because they might not use the right materials (too thin and may snap under a load, or poor welds which could also fail over time) You don't really need a manual for the loader. As long as the cylinders don't leak, the welds are solid and so is the rest of the frame and arms, don't be too concerned about it. That's just my thoughts, correct me if I'm wrong.

You got where I was headed with the above post. The hydraulic seals are leaking, one badly, and I figured the loader manual would detail parts number and what not. Where can a find a beginners book on hydraulic systems? I guess that is what I really need.

this is an excellent reference on hydraulics in that post. Helps clear what remaining confusion I had on closed center systems.

Really don't know how to help you there, besides telling you the obviouse of taking them to a hydraulic repair shop in your area. If the pistons aren't pitted, they should be able to just replace the seals, but if their pitted, you might have to have new pistons put in, or it would be cheaper to just buy some new cylinders over reapairing them.

I would really like to be able to repair them myself. I know hydraulics are not something to screw around with, but with step by step instructions on how to do it safely I think I could work it out.

Don't know how to help you there. Try to find a parts no. on the cylinders with a manufacturer maybe. Not sure how or where they would be put on the cylinder though. Another option would be to start taking it apart and see if the seals have a no. on them or bring them in to a shop to be identified
