88 Bent shaft-Need Advice

The shaft that goes into the clutch from the transmission is bent about 1/4" to 3/8" on my 88. I'm overhauling it for a college class. I need to get it running by about May 1st. Can I just heat it up to straighten it out? What is it called? Where could I get another one? What would it take to replace it? What would I have to take apart to replace it?

I found one at the Agco dealer. I removed the splined input shaft with the pto clutches and it does wobble so it is the shaft. How do I remove the clutches from the old shaft and put them on the new shaft?

Tim--
Im not sure which shaft is bent on your tractor. Is it the long pto drive shaft that is something like five feet long, or is it the hollow shaft thru which the pto drive shaft goes up to the engine flywheel? Also are you trying to remove the clutch assembly from the pto drive shaft? When I get on the same page as you are on I'll try to answer again!

Hi Tim--
It sounds as if the shaft is still in the tractor. If you dont have it out and it seems to be wobbling when it turns it likely isnt bent. It is probably being caused by wear in the splines in the coupler and the shaft. Pull the long pto drive shaft out, take off the hood and sheet metal, remove fuel tank, and battery, unhook throttle linkage under fuel tank, the light wiring, and unbolt the dash from the tractor frame. Pivot the dash assembly around on the steering shaft and lay it on top of the engine and tie it so it cant fall off. Now you can remove the starter, bell housing, coupler and shaft. Check the clutch pressure plate, disc, throwout bearing and pilot bearing while youre in there. E-mail me if you need any more help. Mike.

Tim--

It depends on what shaft you are talking about--the clutch engagement shaft/rod (from the clutch pedal) or the splined output shaft. I'm assuming you're talking about the splined output shaft and if this is bent I would replace instead of attempting to straighten it. This is a hollow shaft and you will never get it true again. You should be able to find one at a salvage yard (make sure the splines into the coupler are good). I know you can get aftermarket rearend input shafts but not sure about this one.
