I might be able to buy a 1755 Oliver tractor that has almost 8000 hours on it. I am wanting to turn it into a puller. A friend of mine has suggested getting an engine out of a newer GMC 2 ton truck. He said they put some Caterpillar engine in it. I guess its a six cylinder. Has anyone ever done this. I think it would be very cool if I can get everything to work. Does anyone know the size of that engine in the GM trucks? I figure if it will fit in the trucks it should fit in the frame of the tractor. Thanks.

I have been thinking about this idea for the past week. Were you reading my ming or what? Get the 3126 instead of the 3116. The 3126 is the same engine as the 3116 except it has all the updates. THe engine is about the same size as a 5.9 Cummins. The only problem is that it is electronically controlled which would be great for a farm tractor, but not a puller depending on how much power you want. It would not be as easy to increase the Hp. The 3116 I saw was rated at 215Hp but somebody told me that it can be uprated to 275, but I'm not sure. This Engine uses a HEUI system. It uses true injectors, not nozzles. The injectors are actuated by hydraulic pressure ranging from 870PSI to 3500PSI and Injection pressures ranging from 5000 to 23,500. the engine sounds awesome, burns clean, quieter than most other engines, and turns 2700RPMS from factory.I can measure this engine tomorrow and compare it with the frame with of one of our other tractors if you want.

MKuhns, If you don't mind please measure it. Please post it back on the board here. I can't seem to be getting my e-mail. I appreciate it. This will be great if we could get it to work. I think the 3116 would probably be better without electronics.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure there are mechanical 3116's also with unit injectors. Electronic engines aren't hard to wire if you have the proper diagrams. I think this engine in a farm tractor would be awesome. I'll take some measurements and get some info. if you are still interested. I will do some research, and try to post again tomorrow.

The engine I mean is the 3116 Cat. If it won't fit between the frame, is the 1955 or 1950-T any wider? Would it fit?

Brad the 1755 1855 1955 1950T should all have the same basic front frame because they all use the same 310 cubic inch wakashau engine and the bolt pattern is exactly the same. The 2050 and 2150 use a hercules engine which is a much larger 6 cylinder engine and is probably much more compadible frame for the bigger cat engine. I won't say that it can't be done in the 1755 frame, I myself don't know the dimensions of the 3116 cat. I wish I could be more help but Im sure you will do just fine. Good Luck Shadetree.

Brad if that is a 3208 it will not fit into the same frame that the wakashaw engine is in take a look at the frame of a 2255 and take note of how much wider the cast frame is than the 1755 frame is. You have to have clearence for the oil filter base on the side of the cat 3208. It might be accomplished if you can use the front frame of a 2255 but I can not swear that one will bolt up to the other.
Anyway I wish you luck on your project and I hope its great out come. Good Luck Shadetree.

The older GMC's (prior to circa 1990) used the 3208 CAT V-8 Diesel which was also used in the vaunted Oliver 2255's, and these make awesome pullers. The newer GMC's use the in-line six CAT 3116, and as far as I know this is not used in any agricultural application other than CAT's own smaller Challengers. I think that this would be tougher to fit in your drive train than the 3208. You probably would need outboard planetaries in order for the drive train to stand up, and by then you would have a 2255 anyway. Good Luck with that, sounds like a cool projectthat I can identify with since my White 2-85 is basically a 1755 Ollie with a Perkins and silver sheet metal.

Where in the world are you planning to pull this thing? Before you spend any money maybe you should look in to some rules. Not all tractor pullers have scruples but some organizations do. Only KIDDING!!!! Some places around here wouldn't allow such thing. Been pulling since '65'
