Oliver 77 question

My dad just bought some land and it came with a Oliver 77 (we think). I was just looking at the service manuals and there are two however. My question is which one do I buy? One of them was listed at 77 G+D, RC, Std, Ind, and the other was listed at 77 Super, G+D, LP, RC, STD, Ind. What do these designations mean? This may help me decide which manual I need. If you cannot do that can you give me some things to look for on the tractor to help me decide?

Geoff , go to the bottom left side of this page. Look at picture list under "Content guide". You will be able to find the tractor you have.

Ok, I found out by looking at pictures that it is not a 77. Can anyone help me out with this? I will give you a scant desciption, the best I can. It has the front wheels together, it has a gas motor, liquid cooled, six cylinder, and that is about the best I can do. If you give me some other tell tell signs I can get back to you so you can help me better.

It could be an Oliver 770, which would have six or eight sided (I don't remember) axle housing. It could be and Oliver 70, which would have round or oval shaped axle housings. Sorry, that is the best I can do for the description you gave.

P.S. It would have to be an RC ('Row Crop' the most common) for my statements to be true.

It does have a six sided axle housing I beleive. The way I know this is that it has a front loader connected to it at the axle and I was looking at this assembly. Are there any other determining marks that are easily found that make a 770 a 770?

If you were to look under the frame behind the bellhousing there will be a casting number. It will have a letter followed by several digits. The letter will tell you the series. For example, my 88 has K100 under the frame. K is the series and 100 is the casting or part number.

A 70 will have a B in front of all it's part numbers.

I forget what my 77 has or my supper 77's.

If you were to look on the engine block near the right hand side just in front of the bellhousing there will appear a casting date on the block. My 88 has 4-03-50 meaning that the block was cast on the 3rd of April 1950. If you have a date at least you can narrow down the year and that will rule out a lot of different models.
