1850 Oliver won't rev up

My neighbor has a 1850 that is sucking air into the fuel system at the injector pump the best we can figure, he went through and bled all the injector lines and got it to start but it won't go above idle and no amount of bleeding the lines has helped, any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

The Govenor retainer in the inj. pump is probably deteoriated. It then plugs the return line or fitting coming out of the pump. While the engine is running open the return fitting at the pump and see if the engine speeds up. It will leak fuel when you do this but is proves where the problem is. Probably looking at inj. pump repair.

Check your air intake. It probally sucked this guys deere in it and can't get enough air.

if its sucking air, it will be hard to start,and WILL NOT ILDE. it will quit. since i bet its a gravity system, like most tractors, anything external will only leak. the lifter pump only ensures that the cavity is full to the top of the injectors, and the pump is probably flow calibrated to the output pressure of the lifter pump. if you can install a guage into the fuel cavity, you should have 10-25 psi internal. could be a thrown flyweight, a weight retainer coming apart, or a governor shoe and spool worn out.

Check to make sure that the return to the fuel tank is not plugged. If it is then you need to go through the pump. The gov. ring has probably eroded away and is plugging the return.

You might look at the fuel tank and check to see if you have adequate fuel flow coming out of the sediment bowl first. Then check fuel flow at the injection pump inlet line and make sure you have plenty of flow there too. Also look to see if the fuel shutoff lever is pushed all the way foward. If these things are all ok then you will have to pull the pump off and have it looked at or rebuilt. I hope this helps Good Luck Shadetree

Also check your lift pump, fuel filters, and make sure you have a vented fuel cap.
