Found this for sale. He is firm at $6,500. Thinks is '74 model, 4400 hrs total, 1500 hrs on Cummins taken out of a truck that wrecked at 15k miles. Good Condition, Near new tires, could use some paint. He has moved on to bigger tractors and uses it only occationally for chopping/blowing. Located in SW WI, (608) 822 6078.

I'v torn down a dodge 5.9 with 380,000 miles on it . engineers said it could ran another 380,000. The engine had virtually NO wear. But it also depends on what kind of maint. the engine has... Mopower

Sorry mopower, I didn't say it would be a bad engine, but the engine in the truck is different from the "black" industrial/farm engine. The black one has the fuel system set up for farm use and I beleive it is better balanced that the truck engine. Maybe someone out there can give us specifics.

All 5.9 are basically same (block,crank,rods,head) the main difference between a automotive and an industrial is the pump and cam. The pump on the industrial is a "true" governored pump where as the automotive is basically a high speed governor. The cam is just different profiles for the specific application.(i.e. constant rpm,variable rpm, low end torque, hi end torque). The cam doesn't really matter unless your after peak performance. The rest of the components on the engine. turbo, flywheel, starter, fan hub, motor mounts is all dependent on where you want them located (hi mount turbo vs. lo mount turbo, left or right hand starter,sae 2 or sae 3 flywheel housing) Dodge uses a special fly wheel housing on their engines but you can change it to a sae with no problem. There is a few nickel dime items that might be different but the engine is pretty much the same. Dodges are built in Indiana and the rest are built in N. Carolina. Cummins will spec out an engine for you if you are a OEM. To do what ever you want with the engine. But I can't see going and spending 15k for an engine that performs perfect when you can spend 3-4k for a used engine and some slight mods to make it fit. But all it depends on just how much you want to spend....hope this helps...mopower

I don't think I would touch a repower with a truck engine, especially if its a Dodge Ram cummins. When I got my 1855 w/cummins, I spoke with the Cummins dealer and actually compared the two different engines. I think you will get a longer life and smoother running engine with the "black" engines.

Thanks, I wondered about the truck engine and what was done to the housing to get it to fit.
