1850 Hydra-Power

I recently purchased an 1965 Oliver 1850 diesel with hydra-power. All I see in the books is a 2 way, with at hydra power or direct drive. My 1850
has the shifter mounted on the bottom of the dash, but has a 3 speed hydra power. Is this unusual, or modified? Not real familiar with this model yet, and the 3 speed doesn't match up with the books I have for it. Any info is appreciated.

Hydra Power was available as an option beginning in 1962 and, as such, was always available on the 1850. The Over/Under was introduced in 1967 and would have been available on the larger 50 series Olivers during and after that model year. So your '65 did not originally come with the O/U; someone replaced the Hydra Power with this O/U and retained the Hydra Power control linkage, as the O/U unit was controlled by a lever on the left side of the throttle lever.

I have a couple of manuals that show a three speed as an option on the 1850 and several other series Cockshutts and Olivers.

I have a 1950 Gm that has a 3 speed torq also , someone has installed over/under in place of the hydra unit, be sure it has a cooler in front of the radiator. The hydra had a heat exchanger on top of it.
