Yesterday I changed the oil in my S55, finally.

Drove it around and used the 3pt with blade to move some rocks.

Lots of oil leaking from the Cross shaft seals.

I used the specified 10W30 engine oil, but have not changed the filter.

I changed the oil cause it was milky (water?) and has been for some time. I have noticed that the seals have seeped before. My plan is to try to find the filter and replacement seals and replace then soonest.

Am I missing anything here?

If you put 30 wt oil tn the trans [5 gal] no wonder the seals are leaking it takes 140 wt in the trans, the filter has nothing to do the trans. There are TWO tanks in the trans, front filler takes the 140 wt, the rear filler takes 6-9quarts. To drain the hydraulic system take the pipe plug from the 3 bolt cover on the right front of the top cover, put a 3/8 hose on a pipe nipple, start the engine and the oil will pump out. The cross shaft seal are replacable, take all levers etc off, a sharp chisel driven into the seal will pry it out and the new driven in. About a 3 hr job.

I didn't put the 30 wt into the trans, but into the 3pt hydraulic system.

The milky white oil will be thicker than the new oil,thats why it did not leak out so fast.Have you fixed how the water got in there?

Kids removed the cap as a keepsake I guess and rain got in.

All replaced now.

Hey Pete, does your Super 55 have the older style 3-point hitch filter that sticks out the left side under the seat, or is it the newer style filter that points out the front of the 3-point system?

Sorry it took so long to answer, I've been vacationing!

The one that sticks out the left hand side. Checking around it appears to be a gas filter used as an oil filter.
