Looking at a 1955 with front wheel assist. Tractor looks and runs good. Tractor has cat 2 three point. Did some of these tractors have cat 3 3 point? what is the deal on that? Did just the late ones have the heavier three point? Gentleman is asking $6000. Tractor does have nice rubber. Is that too much? thanks

My stepfather just bought a 1855 FWD with a loader and cab for $4000 at a sale in Florida with 2500Hrs on it. It is a decent looking tractor and doesn't even smoke when running. It starts fine when it is cold, but when it warms up it doesn't even try to start and no smoke will come out of the stack either. So we will be replacing the injection pump sometime real soon. The tires on the tractor are about 20% on the front and 50% on the rear. The link were the 3pt are attaches to the tractor is broke off, but we have another to fix it. THe clutch seems a little weak and we have a few leaks to fix. So we will be putting in around $1500 in parts to get in in good working condition and about 3 days owrth of labor. $6000 doesn't sound like too much. Make sure the over/under works O.K. Ride the brakes hard or go up a steep hill while shifting the torque up and down at about 3/4 throttle. Listen took make sure that the RPM's drop right away and it don't slip. Remember that under does not hold back! Another thing to consider is to put new bearings in the engine which can be done easily in a nights time. These engien are suposedly known for throwing rod outof the side of the block Put in new rod bolts if you do this. For about $350 dollars of bearings and rod bolts, this is just insurance and what we will be doing to the 1855 also.

I would go for it. That price sounds very reasonable for that size tractor. You said it ran good, so it would be worth it, after all it is an Oliver

Hi, Jim! The Cat. III hitch was an option. We have a '69 model 1950-T front wheel assist with this hitch (external lift cylinders). Quite a tractor! I installed a turbocharged Cummins into it in April of 1992: now Dad won't part with it! $6000 for a 1955 front wheel assist is fair money. Heck, even if it doesn't run, they make a fine repower candidate, for either a Perkins or a Cummins. I re-powerd one of these, as well as an 1855 PFA. Fun, Fun, Fun to drive!!! Merlin
