I just bought a 70. Don't know what year it is (I'm pretty sure it's pre 1940) and it is rough - but runs. Are there manuals available for this tractor and how else can I best tell what it's supposed look like? Are there any good books about these tractors? Thanks.

Hi,
never mind the archives in Charles City, just look up, and left, under Marketplace and then Manuals. This is a super site, and is free except for voluntary donations, so any items you purchase are indirectly going to help this forum to continue.
All you need now is to post the serial numbers to get the year of manufacture and you should be just about there....
Have fun, RAB

Where is the serial number located? I spent some time looking for it and didn't see it. It's probably under a few layers of crud. Thanks

I had one of these (wish I still did). There should be a plate riveted on the left (I think) side of the engine block. That will have the tractor serial # on it. If the engine has been swapped then it obviously won't be right. Highly unlikely though.

Dick, ANY book about Olivers is a GOOD book! :<)

I believe you can get reprints of the original owners manual and service manual from the archives which I believe are in Charles City, Iowa, but I'll have to check on that. The contact person would be Mary Ann Townsend. As to the color photos so you can see how your tractor is supposed to look, I'll dig mine out and scan them if you give your e-mail address (I think you already did). Cheers!
