I recently purchased part number 165273A for my Oliver Super 55. This is a small block which provides output ports for hydraulics. This is not the standard auxiliary valve. The lower port out of the tractor goes to an external valve. This port also has a relief which drains back to the tractor.
The second port has the return port from the external valve and returns to the upper opening in the tractor. The ports are not connected thru the added block(165273A).
I understand the reason for the relief to prevent deadheading the pump. However what is the advantage of not connecting the ports internally since there is an internal relief in the tractor? It would seem that once the fluid passes from the pump to the external valve and then back to the tractor to power the three point hitch you would loose a lot of pressure. Would it not be conceivable to machine a block similar to the standard coverplate with an output port but add a drain line to the tractor hydraulics? The pressure going to the 3 point cylinder and the external valve would then be the same.

If I understand correctly you can't do that because its an open center system. If it where a closed center system it would work.
