My tractor has mechanical lift, and i would like some hydraulic power , what is involved with getting rid of old lift and installing a pump and hydraulic unit?

The 77s and 88s use the pto shaft that runs from the engine to the rear to drive the hydraulic pump. All you should need to do is remove the lift unit. Then pull out the pto shaft far enough to drop the hydraulic unit in place. Put the shaft back in and you should have hydraulic power.

You have to remove the gear that runs the lift, then cut the back of the shaft off and install the hyd unit. It is driven by the PTO shaft. You do have to pull the long PTO shaft then reinstall after you put the hyd unit on as the shaft runs through the pump.

not sure but i think that the mechanical lift is driven by a different size gear than the hydrolic unit drive. i believe you would have to change the gear n the trans.
