1550 olivier diesel

I need help!!! i have a 1550 oliver diesel that ran,but no power and smoked real bad black smoke, I could turn the engine easy by hand. I pulled the head this evening, the pistons and cylenders look good. have not pulled valves yet. I think the pump needs rebuilt, im gettin diesel into the oil. where can i buy just the rings, or is this a bad idea? Also may need some vales. This is a low buck operation, if it is going to get to involved I may put a 350 chev. engine in it. I put one in a Massey-Harres and it worked fine. also need a repair manuel. THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!!

Well I found my main problem, All the ex. valve seats were bad, rusted-pitted. but the strange thing is all valves look good!! The tractor had a bad ex.pipe and was parked for a couple of years maybe rain water got the seats but why not the valves?? are they high nickel or something? Took the head to mechine shop and pump and injectors to pump shop. not shur what to do on rings, I think Ill put a.t.f. on top of pistons and see how long it stays there. THANKS FOR YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS. I have never tried a sight like this befor.

You probably need a sleeve and ring kit, as you shouldnt be able to turn over a diesel by hand.
232 CID Waukesha Diesel. Black smoke indicates poorly burned fuel, could be injectors or pump, but i'd check the compression first, as i don't like the turning over by hand. One time,I saw a David Brown 990 with a 350 chevy, looked slick but if I were going to work it, I'd repower with a 4 cyl cummins or rebuild the old waukesha.

Diesel in your oil sounds like a bad injection pump shaft seal. Roosa-Master uses two umberalla type seals on their pumps. They are easy to change. First mark the pump with the flange for easy installation. Then unhook the throttle linkage and wire the throttle lever on the pump in the wide open position. This keeps the governor weights in place when you remove the pump. Then remove injection lines, and you unbolt the pump and pull rearwards. There you will see the two seals and installation is reverse of the removal.

I also would like to ask if the engine has a miss? If so the diesel in your oil and black smoke could be coming from a stuck injector.

You may need a miracle!
You don't say whether you have just got the tractor or give the symptoms as it (slowly?) got worse.
Compression or, lack of it, is likely to be main problem, particularly if you can turn it easily and quickly by hand.
Don't know anything about the particular engine but could be a warped head and gasket blowing between cylinders, valves shot, or no clearances and valves being held open, rings NBG. May also have other ailments like dirty, sticking or leaky injectors.
Always best, maybe, to find out as much as possible while it is still together - like listening for where the compression is being lost, pulling the dipstick while it is running (and being showered with oil by blow-by), Having injectors checked and set up, etc.
By the way injection pumps are fairlyly reliable and are the last thing to rebuild unless you are sure its dodgy. just my 2p worth from an amateur machanic.
