Hello,

I just bought my first oliver yesterday, a 196X Oliver 1800 A. The tractor is in very good conditon, even the tires, but the engine is bad/missing. I am unable to locate a replacement in northern WI (it is a diesel). Does anyone out there know of a place that would be a good place to look? Also what kind of horse power (70 - 75) & torque in ft/lbs. would a tractor like this be? I have talked to a few people that they have heard of putting 5.9 liter cumming truck engines in these tracors? Any information would be a great help.

P.S. Just to let you know I was an IH man before this.

Hi:

These engines are Waukeshaw's. Parts are still obtainable from dealers maybe? I know there are people with New Old Stock and you can rebuild them. Anyway, for your miss i would almost bet that it is a fuel related problem. Probably the injection pump, it should be a Roosa-Master and any good pump shop can rebuild it. Give it a tune up and if it still runs bad take it somewhere or take off the fuel system to have it tested. They aren't that bad of an engine, I've seen one that'll run the blower day in and day out at full throttle for 10 hours a day. Just keep em maintained.

Hope this helps

The Oliver is a good solid tractor and worth converting or re-powering. A lot of people have put 5.9 Cummins's into Olivers and have had it work out very well. But it is expensive, and somewhat difficult to adapt. The Perkins 6-354 woudl be another good choice as they were used in the Oliver 1850 so would probably bolt up relatively easily. I like the Perkins in my White. You wouldnt regret either one, it just depends on where you get the best deal, wrenching skill that you have or can get to, etc. Hope this helps.

HElo,

Just wanted to thank those who replyed to my posting. I decided to go with a 250 h.p. industrial 5.9 cummins. It was setup as a power unit on a huge saw mill. Now it's time to start shoe horning it into the Oliver. Again thanks for the replys.
