Oliver RC 70 spark plug wire position

I have a 1940 Oliver RC 70 6 cylinder that had the spark plug wires removed from the distributor cap. Can anyone tell me where position 1 is on the distributor cap? Also is there supposed to be a voltage regulator incorporated in the electrical system? This is still the original 6 volt system.

Looking down on the cap, the # wire should be just to the side of the terminal on the side of the distributor. I hope that makes sense. From there, in a clockwise direction, they go 1-5-3-6-2-4 . Notice, I say SHOULD. That is what the org. diagram looks like in my book. At some time or another, my grandad wrote in another, totally different diagram. I don't know which way my tractor is. If the distributor is timed right to the tractor, the factory diagram should work.

On my 70 the #1 plug is ( as you are looking toward the front) on the right side of the rear clip the fireing order is stamped on the block 152436----- ---15 to young 36 to old 24 just right think about it. But there all younger than me now . Almost all In line 6 have this fireing order . KEN

Ken, I have a question for you. Maybe you can help. Can you send me a written diagram of the shifting pattern on your 70? I have a 70 Standard and shifting pattern tag is missing. If there ever was one. I know it is not like my 88.
