Info on 550 price ,things to look for etc.

I am looking at several 550's. The person I would be buying it from buys them in various conditions and fixes them to sell. Most of them don't have working hour meters. THe ones that I have looked at seem to run well and everything works ,but I'm a little worried without knowing if they have ever been rebuilt or how many hours they have on them. What is alot of hours on a gas motor.I would also like to know what would be a fair price on one that runs well,has good rubber and everything works. what would have to pay for one that was excellent and where would be the best place to find an exceptional one. Thanks

3000 is getting near the top for me if i was going to buy a decent one with everything working.
