I was wondering if the engine found in the oliver 70 was ever built heavier for industrial use or as a power unit? What other machinery could this engine could be found in?

The oliver 70 engine is the heavy duty industrial version.Several local people worked at the contintal plant [about 40 miles away] and the same block was used in a Kaiser Fraser auto and some other small quanity car mfg.s but the oliver engine had stelite valves, replaceable guides and seats, and a heavy crank makeing it the heavy duty engine. You might want to use a crank from a five gear engine since it has large counter balance weights and with the correct bearings will hold up under high RPM much better than the 3 gear.

Continental built the Oliver 70 201 engine to Oliver specs. Altho COntinental supplied lots of OEM's with standard engines, the fact that it was built to Oliver specs makes me think it was used in Olivers only. I guess one would have to find a Continental catalog of the era to verify this.
