Oliver 77 Steps

When I purchased our Oliver 77, it had steps, with builtin toolboxes, bolted to the axles. I figured they were an aftermarket or homemade setup. However, at the Plain City Oh show this summer, I saw some olivers with these same steps. Were they an Oliver option? Are they rare? What do they sell for?

Hi,

Yes, Oliver did make tool boxes, and they came fully equiped with tools for the oli. I have a Parts Manual for Std 60 and RC 60 and it shows the tool boxes and the tools that it came with.

I always thought they were made by Oliver, but I don't see them listed in an Oliver 66-660 parts book. It does show an optional dimond plate step on the drawbar rack. Can anyone confirm this for other models?

i have the same thing on my oliver 77. the toolbox step was an after market idea. but they did have steps that bolted to the axel as an optition.

I would also like to see a picture posted of any Oliver factory step. P.S. I've never been able to figure out how to post a picture with the "Optional Image URL". With This in mind, if someone had a picture, could they e-mail it to me. I would like to put a step on my 77 before I break my rump climbing on or off the tractor.

Saw a step with toolbox at a farm auction bring $75 a year ago. Real nice shape with almost all the paint on it. I wasn't smart enough to buy it.

I answer at the risk of being proved wrong (again) but here goes. As far as I know Oliver never made the steps. There was a company (or maybe more than one) that manufactured those steps. Good possibility that dealers purchased and installed them on new tractors back in that era. There were left and right hand steps. We have a couple but they do not have tool boxes. You must have the super-deluxe version. I would leave them on.

We bought a set of steps for our new 88 from the dealer in about l951 because my dad had trouble climbing on tractor. They were left and right as each had a ledge on the bottom step to keep your foot away from the wheel. They did not have a tool box on them. We later bought a used 77 that had one step with a tool box under the bottom step. We sold the 77 but I kept the step and mounted it on a cyclo corn planter to get to the seed box easier.

We previously owned a 770 and 880 oliver which had these steps. There was one on each side, they had a large hole in them used for mounting 4-row mid-mounted cultivators. Our steps did not have tool boxes but early ones may have. Hope this helps.

the steps i think you are referring to were aftermarket. they were made by knoedler mfg in central illinois. the two styles were plain (left & right) and toolbox equipped (left & right). i have 3 sets on my working tractors here at home. really help ease the job of getting on and off all day. i have one plain and one toolbox on each. lots easier than looking for the chain that slipped off the step in the field. the last set i saw sell was $140.00 in n.e indiana. also a steal!
