I am restoring a oliver (model 22-A I believe) sickle bar mower. The frame is Oliver green but the sickle bar looks to be black or a very dark color in the black and white photo's in the manual. Does anyone know what the proper color for the sickle bar should be? I also would like to know if any tractor decal sets carry the same decals as the mower. I know it had a safety decal on the pto shield and "OLIVER" on the back of the frame in yellow letters about 2-3" high. Thanks,JSB

The decal I bought is 1.5" x 10" yellow implement decal. The decal was only $5.00. Their phone number is 515-622-2592 if you want to call them.

Hi,

I am acumulating pieces to restore one too. I got the yellow oliver decal from dumonts. I don't remember what they called the decal, but it looks just like the old one. Does yours have a single strap holding the wheel spindle? What have you found for tires?

Ryan, I went to TSC today and they have a 4.80-8 tire that should work. It has a sawtooth tread, $25-30 I think plus tubes. Made by Carlisle.

I think TSC should be able to order some tires that will fit. I went there today to get some other stuff and they have a catalog you can order out of. I could'nt remember the tire sizes so I'm not 'hunnert precent sure they have the exact size. Mine are 4.00-8. Are you looking for OEM treads? They seem to have knobby or the zig-zag treads. The rims are pretty rusted, I may have to fill in some pitted areas with JBweld. The swivels that hold the axles are the cast type, not the double strap like yours. I also emailed Dumont's to see if they still have any decals. I hope to have some pics up in the next few weeks.

What model are you restoring? What's the part # for the decals and what's dumont's address? I'm not sure what the "wheel spindle" is, but if you are referring to where the pittman arm connects to the flywheel (or crankwheel),there are two straps. I haven't looked for tires yet. mine still hold air and the treads are good but they have some severe cracks in the sidewalls. I don't think they'll hold up in actual use. I've gotten all new bearings and seals (except for the flywheel which turns smooth), new knife section, rock guards, pittman arm, paint, and a couple of new chain links. I still need tires and the pieces that connect the pittman arm to the ball on the knife section. I was mowing for a guy and it was in the bushes,he said I could have it for free. I'm hoping to get it done by the end of spring.

Try Maple-Hunter Decals, PO box805, Riley, Ind 47871, 812-894-9759. If you can send a photo and detailed description of your decals they might be able to match them with a stock decal or maybe make them up to your specs. My guess would be that the cutterbar would have been green from the factory. I might be able to find a picture and let you know for sure. Mike.

I don't have enough of a decal to take a picture of it. I guessed it was an Oliver because of the green paint on the frame and the white wheels. (What little paint was left.) There was just enough pieces of the lettering to confirm that it said "OLIVER" on the frame. The picture in my operators manual shows that the frame and cutter bar are clearly two different colors. It may be that the model shown is a 22-B or maybe the paint scheme changed. There is one picture in the parts manual but it's hard to tell if they are different colors. The date on the Parts manual is May 1956. Thanks for the tip on the decals though.

I didn't see the decal I bought on Dumont's web cite. I'll see if I can find the brochure with the description in it.

The spindle I was refering to is the axle the wheel is on. Some had a strap on each side of the tire, others only had one.
