Is there a way to replace the points of a magneto system on an Oliver OC4 4 cylinder gas crawler with electronic ignition?

Darryn - Only way I can think to do this is to install an external ignition coil, install the electronic setup in place of the mag points, and scrap the old mag internal coil. Then you have to figure a way to get the high voltage from the new coil into the mag (easy to do on an IHC mag, maybe not so easy with the Oliver.) The only function remaining in the mag would be distribution of high voltage to the plugs wires.

Might be easier to find a distributor for the engine, convert that to electronic and dispense the the magneto entirely.

Yes, My Hg had been converted once, but I brought it back to original when I had problems with the impulse not advancing once running.
I would incurage you to simply have the whole unit rebuilt to orignal. But here's how they converted it, from my memory.
Mount your coil, supply power through a switch and resistor to if required to your coil "bat" side.
Cap mods, there was a "j" shaped metel strap that contacts the coil contact when the cap is in place(wico mag). Remove that, drill a hole near the screw that held the strap. The hole is for the coil wire from the center of the coil munt the coil wire to the screw that held the strap. You will also need to run a wire from the points to the positive side of the coil. Use the screw that holds the wire to the capacitor. After connecting to it at the pionts, feed the wire through a hole you will drill in the mag body or just file a place along your modified cap's edge so it does not pinch the wire when the cap is in place.
You have just converted your mag to a Distributer.
You still need to have good pionts and capacitor for this just the same.
I may be just as easy to repair the original mag.

If this is a Hercules IXB engine, then know that it was availible with battery ignition. I have this on my tractor now, the engine came from a hyster fork lift. There is a deferent front engine cover and the dist. runs off the cam gear. International had a unit the replaced the mag all together and should not be hard to find.
