Does anyone know what the cause of the engine having to run with the choke on would be? Just rebuilt the carb with a rebuild kit. It won't keep running without the choke on a little. I tried adjusting the idle and power adjusting needles but they don't seem to help. Any help is appreciated. Tractor is a '57 gas. Thanks.

I had this problem with my Super 55. It was a manifold leak. Fairly easy to check with wd-40 sprayed around manifold/block junctions while running. RPM speedup indicates leak. Gaskets are available for about $15. Just take your time with the manifold bolts, and have a machine shop true up the manifold (35-40 bucks here). Good luck. The 55 is a great tractor. Rusty

Thanks RustyHulk, I went out and tried your trick and that is the culprit.
