Can anyone tell me the difference between the 88 std and the 88 wheatland? I have a 88 std? and the front axle looks very similar to the 77's and the 70's std's. I saw an 88 std? the other day that had a huge straight front axle (like the industrials) with big spindles on the end. The serial tag said standard 88 and it was a 1949. Is one of these a wheatland and one a std. or was this an option you could order? was this a rare unit I saw? Thanks, Alan

The regular wide front is adjustable on a standard or other similar models. The wheatlands had a solid cast front axle that was non-adjustable.

According to the 88 parts book only the row crop version was available with an adjustable tread width front axle

I follow what you are saying. The row crop 88 is a round pipe that is adjustable. I'm not saying this onee was adjustable. On most standards the front axle has a little arch up in the middle, goes down 3/4 of the way out and then has a little curve back up again towards the outside edge. This 88 I saw had a straight axle approx. 1.5"x3". Alan

Parts book shows this axle as a industrial axle. The front wheel shows as being attached with lugs the same as rear only smaller. I have a standard 77 with the industrial front axle and it uses 18 inch front tires with the 14.9 -26 rear.
