my oli 1850 perkins won't crank. shes been sitting for more than a year waiting for me to get at a trans problem. now that I'm ready I wanted to warm her up and get pressure back in the steering so I can tow her to another spot to split her and she won't even crank over. I did take the gearshift out to remove the inspection cover and was wondering if I'm missing a neutral safety or something. any suggestions on how to attack this? It ran fine and I drove it to the spot I parked her. Thanks

There is a connection in front of the dash assembly on the right side right behind the hydra power. Disconnect and put a jumper accross it to start the old girl. You could could also jump accross the starter solinoid, but be careful you don't have her in gear. What is wrong with the transmission anyway? Never had much trouble with the trannys on my 1850's.

when I bought her she kept jumping out of fourth gear. figured I could skip that one and use her but it jumped out of third and fourth so I figured I'd better look at it. Found out it had a broken shift fork. Was able to weld it on the tractor through the inspection plate and seemed to have it done but it banged terrible after that. Retook the plate off to find a missing tooth on one of the gears. Number three if memory serves me right. Design dictates that now I have to split it and replace the gear(s) that are bad. Was trying to run it first to get pressure in the steering gears so I can move it.
