I'm trying to determine the year of manufacture for this old diesel tractor. There are two numbers stamped in the name plate, but the painted designators are gone. The top number is 1651211 and the bottom number on the plate is 150207452. I'm thinking the bottom number is the serial and that I probably have a '64 model. I would appreciate any help in determining the model year and what the other number means as well. I was introduced to farming on this tractor when I was a boy and am considering restoration or at least putting it back to work (or both). Thanks for any help.

From the number that you listed the tractor is a 1964 serial number 150 207. 427 indicates it was a HydraPower equipped standard speed transmission tractor. The first three digits in the upper area of the plate (165)indicates its an early model 1650. Remember there is three generations of the 1650 thus three model numbers. 165 is early with LaNova Cell engine, 265 indicates the change to Direct Injection engine and 465 indicates change to Over/Under Hydraul shift. Fourth number indicates it came from the factory with a narrow front and fifth number indicates a Diesel engine.

Thanks for that. Are there any particular problems associated with this tractor? I recall (~15 yrs ago) my Granfather commenting on weak hydraulics. I also recall having occasional trouble picking up round bales. That was probably just a problem with this tractor needing some maintenance, but I have seen a couple of notes on hydraulic pumps here.

Do you have a sheet that tells you what all the different numbers mean in an Oliver serial number??? That sure would be handy to have to identify tractors. Or somewhere we can get access to that information if we want to look up a tractor.

452 is the the last 3 numbers on all the 1650 serial numbers.To look up the year drop off the last 3,so you are correct it is 1964.
