My 550 has 3 different marks on the flywheel. I can not tell which one to use to time the engine. My question is what do each of the marks say and which one do I use to set the timing

Those marks are for the valve timing. They are INT for the intake valve, TDC for the intake valve, TDC for the exhaust. To check your valve timing use the procedure from the manual written below:

With a dial indicator on the numgber one cylinder intake rocker arm adjusting screw by clamping the gauge bracket on a cover mounting stud.

Lower the indicator plunger onto the adjusting screw. Turn the engine over and back slowly about one half rotation to dertermine the base circle of the cam lobe. There should not be more than .001 inch movement of the dial indicatorfor about one revolution of the engine from the time the valve closed. Set the gauge to zero at a point of no indicator movement in the base circle range.

Turn the engine clockwise slowly until the incator reading is .011 for begin open. Remove the timng hole inspection cover to see if the INT mark on the flywheel aligns with the pointer within about 5/8 inch, 6.

Colntinue turing the engine clockwise slowly until the indicator reading is .014 for Intake TDC (still open). The TDC mark on the flywheel should align with the inspection window pointer within 5/8 inch, 6.

Check the number one exhaust valve in a similar manner with .011 begin open, and .017 TDC (Close). The EXH mark on the flywheel shyould align with the pointer at the open readin and the TDC mark aligh at the TDC reading.

Hope that helps. If you need anymore info email me.

TDC = Top Dead Center, Compression stroke of your #1 cylinder. Adjust point opening to .022

Use the timing light on the IGN/HC mark at 2200RPM
This should be advanced 28Deg. BTDC = Before Top Dead Center.

I'm not shure what the 3rd mark is that your seeing.

Jack
