Loader on an 88

I have a 1952 Row Crop 88 with a factory adjustable wide front (no power steering), and series 3 hydraulics (dual valve). I'm thinking of putting a loader on it. My question is will it handle a loader very well? Would a loader be too heavy for the front end? Could I hook it up to the hydraulics with out any trouble, or would it not have enough power? (I'm not sure what the GPM or rated PSI of the pump is) What do you guys think? Any experiences good or bad? I plan to do mostly light work with it, clearing snow and moving dirt.

I have a oliver 770 with a loader. I needed more pressure so i put a P T O pump on it with 3000 psi. I also put a char-lyn pump in the steering rod under the battery box with a power steering pump out of an 85 buick skyhawk driven off the alternator.Works great. You could do the same on your 88.

Hi Roy, I have a '50 88 with an 880 frame, the original owner broke the original frame as the result of having an old Horn loader on it. But, this tractor was put through more abuse than you could imagine to accomplish the above malfunction. I replaced the original hydraulics with a unit also from an 880, has the two levers coming out of the top. I put an Oliver 1610 loader on this 88 and used it for years. Loaded 1000 lb. big round bales on trucks. Was a bearcat to steer but it was the best I had at the time. The loader was not that slow as far as hydraulics are concerned and as long as I was careful not to fill the bucket everything worked OK. My 88 has a narrow front. For light work you'll be alright, just be mindful of the extra stress on the frame and front end.

DEAR ROY YES IT WILL HANDLE IT WELL, IT WILL STEER HARD.THE HYD. PSI. IS AROUND 1250 PSI. ABOUT NINE GPM. BUT YOU WILL PROBALY HAVE TO ADD A EXTRA TANK FOR CAP. JIM

This summer I completed mounting a Farmhand
F-11B on 1952 Oliver 88 RC.
I used the Farmhand PTO pump that originally
came with loader.
It works great.
Hydraulics on my 88 are weak.
Haven't ventured into that problem yet.
Mine is single front and does steer hard.
Was hoping to find some sort of after market
power steering that would install and also
not junk up the tractor.
