My Father swears that he bought his 20 Cockshutt in 1950. But everthing I read on the net say they were not built until 1952. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff

The 20 was made from 1952-58. Early 20s came with
a F124 engine and production was around 860. The
20 then came with the F140 Continental engine.
Does your father remember which motor he had?

Hi Unimog, I went out this morning and got the serial number off the engine and it's F124 12515 and at the right end of the plate 340 printed vertically. Stamped right into the top of the frame to left of the engine is 20 647. Could it be the '52 model was available in '51? Also Dad was wondering if you might know the differance between the F124 and the F140? Thanks jeff

Jeff, the 20 began production in Feburary 1952.
Your serial number 20 647 translates to model 20
tractor 647. The starting number was 101 so your
tractor is the 570th made in 1952.

Those little Continental engines actually came in 3 sizes. The 124, the 140, and the 162 cubic inch versions. All of them were identical except the cylinder bore. On the 124 it was 3", then on the 140 it was 3 3/16" and on the 162 it was 3 7/16". They were used on a lot of agricultural applications (Massey 101 and 102's, swathers, etc) and others. Lincoln used them in their welders for years and years (and thousands of those welders still have them). Actually there were 2 other industrial versions, a 135 cubic inch version and a 163 cubic inch version. Don't know how they added just one or two cubic inches. All of the engines had a 4 3/8" stroke.
