2655 Engines interchange?

The 2655 used both Cat (3140?) and 585 Moline engines. Does anyone happen to know if the bellhousings are the same? The front frames?

I've found a 2655 (oddly enough, with no cab)with the MM engine. I was wondering if it could be repowered with a CAT without major tear-up.

Just curious.

I have one and I did alot of measureing.The moline bellhouseing is not a standard one like a no.1 industrial.The v8 cats are smaller and seen to fit trucks better.they might have an adapter over to a no.1.The pto is not a problem but the 2 hydrolic pumps look like they could be trouble.Mine has the gear driven closed center system, which cant be driven directly by a belt.So you need to drive a shaft and hook the pump to it and leave room to hook up the open center steering system.The closed center pump locks up your starting system because there is no bypass valve like on the 2-135.I used mine with the moline engine this year.

If it was me I would put an 8.2L Cummins in her. But then I love putting the Cummins into Olivers. I dont know much about the Cat engines but Im sure you could get some parts or mounts off of a 2255 with a Cat and make it work. I saw pictures of a 2655 with a cab with a 5.9L Cummins in it so I know it can be done. The engine was quite a bit shorter and they had to do some modifying to get everything to work, but it was a nice tractor when it was done. Just my thoughts.

Good idea about parts robbing from the 2wd tractor.

I'm not real fond of the Cummings swap, I keep looking at my friends 496 CID Chevy with covetous eyes. Fuel economy sucks (literally). Not that the Cummings is a bad swap, they are one sweet motor, but as a GM employee it grinds me to use a motor out of a Dodge (even if I know they just bought it from Cummings).

What I really would like to use is the new GM Duramax diesel. Gale Banks ought to have a turbo kit out for it nex year.... I'd be looking for 350HP at 3200RPM.

Anyways, Mommy said NO MORE TOYS for now. But I'm keeping my eye on the big green beast, just in case.

Be sure to have plenty of head gaskets and a few extra heads for the Duramax 2655 ,I have seen 4 pass through the shop since the introduction. We sell both yet I need a while for more impression.
