550 temperature sender

I replaced the gauge cluster on my '59 gas 550 and when I fire it up, the temperature needle quickly goes to hot and stays there. I figured it was a clogged radiator hose or bad thermostat, but no problem there. I see no indication of a water pump problem. Is there any easy method for testing the sender? The tractor never gave sign of running hot before.

Are you running the electrical system on 12 volt positive ground? The wrong polarity will ruin the gauges in the cluster.

Yep, 12V positive, with a positive ground gauge cluster straight from Korves Oliver. Wonder if maybe someone stuck an aftermarket negative ground sender in there and it's reading backwards?
