I've replaced everything electrical, tuneup wise, including ignition switch. The compression is 120 psi on all cylinders timing is on according to specks. I'm gitting fuel to the cylinders. The spark seems weak. It's making me crazy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks. P.S. It's a 1950 4 cylinder gas engine.

lets try again

any chance it is a positive ground system and its
hooked up backwards.
my 1953 oc-6 is 6 volt and positive ground it i'm
remembering correct.

while i've touched on that subject if i convert to
12 volt and a one wire alternator on the oc-6 i have to go back to negative ground? correct
on my super 55 i just added a ballast resistor 12volt battery and one wire alternator.

thanx jeff

My Oliver manual has some ideas that might help.

1. Corroded terminals
2. Broken wire insulation and shorts to ground, check wiring circuits, clean and tighten all connections
3. Poor condenser ground connection-clean and tighten connections
4. Weak condenser-replace condenser
5. Defective coil-replace coil
6. Worn distributor shaft bushing-replace bushing

Here is how it says to test your coil. Make sure coil is clean, dirt can cause excessive moisture leading to voltage leakage. Clean it and check for cracks on the cap of the coil. If there are any cracks a new coil should be installed.

To check for internal shorts, a meter is the best method, but it does list another method.

1. Remove the distributor cap, rotor and dust cover from the distributor.

2. Remove the high tension cable from the distributor cap and hold it 3/8 inch fro a ground.

3. With the ignition switch on, ipen and close the breaker points wih an INSULATED SCREWDRIVER. A strong spark should jump the gap from the cable to ground.

If you get a new coil make sure you install the primary wire from the distributor to the plus terminal of the coil and the other wire from the ignition switch to the negative terminal. These two terminals are marked on the coil. Good Luck...

In my humble opinion, you should check all electrical connections, especially battery terminals and ground cable to frame. If you put new battery cables on it, are they at least 00 in size if your tractor is 6 volt? Keep at it, you'll do it! Good luck!
