Hi,

We have a 1750 with a blown engine and were told the Perkins engine in an 1850 would bolt right in. Is that true? If so, would a Perkins from an old combine work also? Does anyone know what model combines also use that engine?

Ive heard that the 5.9 cummins is the same base engine as the case 504, I know we used to get a lot of power out of the 504's. Does anybody know of a good source of cummins engine units.

No, if you have a 1750 diesel it is a 310ci Waukesha and the 354ci perkins will not bolt right in. If you get a front frame off of an 1850 or a 2-105 white and replace the front frame of the tractor, then a Perkins will bolt in. You can find those frames at tractor bone yards, but they are about $800 to $1,000 for that front frame, because that is what everyone uses for the Cummins conversions. As to the engine, you will need to find what they call a no dot 354 perkins engine. Problem is they are getting hard to come by. Some of the Massey combines ran that engine along with some of the Massey tractors. The 2-105 White ran a 354 perkins but it was a later model dot 2 and I dont think it will fit. You can still get these engines new or rebuilt sometimes.

If your 310 is gone I would definatly recommend to repower the tractor with a 354ci perkins or a 5.9L cummins engine. It will make a whole lot better tractor, I have two that were repowered with a 5.9L cummins and I wondered why I didnt do it sooner.

There are alot of massy 510 combine engines around but they need a differant flywheel clutch and bellhouseing. the 1850 parts will fit but can't find any.

Yeah, from what I have found the 354 perkins you need to fit in the 1850 is in fairly short supply. The problem is mostly the water pump and the oil pan, the water pump on the newer 354 engines is higher and does not allow the fan to line up with the radiator, and it does not switch with the water pump you need. The oil pan on the older 354 engines is taller and narrower than it is on the later models too and will not fit in the tub frame, and of course it does not switch to the older style eaither. So you have to find that old style no dot perkins to fit, and they havnt made those engines sence 1970.

You would probably be better off putting in a Cummins.
