i am looking at an Oliver 550 and would like to know if and how i can put remote hydraulics on it, i know their must be a way but not sure, i believe it has the 3 pt. hitch, but its been a while since i seen it up close, and help would be appreciated, thanks Pat

The pump for the 3 pt only pumps 5 GPM max, my 55 [ 550's same thing ] had a loader powered by the remote and was very slow. The front crank pully is drilled and tapped and I'm machining an adapter plate for Ford loader parts to kick up the loader lift speed. The only accessory that I have seen was a Hyd cyl mounted on the front to raise a snow plow.

Easy and cheap, any aftermarket remote valve will do, just mount it on the fender. There is a pressure port and a return port on the side of the pump housing, just tap in for your feed and dump. Don't know which one? RH side, just about where your calf sits when you're on the tractor. Pull the pipe plug and start her up - if it spits it's the pressure, run that to the feed side of the valve. One of the ohter two will let oil back into the housing, this is your return. Presto! instant remotes. Be sure valves are closed center type so the pump doesn't over work itself. Most important thing is to watch the fluid level, check that at full cylinder extension there is still fluid in the operating range. The pump and oil capacity work good for short (4x8") or small cylinders (2 1/2 x16"), don't try a loader or you'll run the pump dry and you won't like that bill! If you want to do that pop the $500 and put a front pump on (pump is cheap, mounts and drive are not unless you make your own).

ALWAYS use breakaway couplers! (you learn this after your trailer plow tears the pump off your tractor.) Besides saving your equipment, it lets you change implements quickly (like power 3 point to log splitter in 10 seconds).

Yeah, What Mark said. They are rare and expensive. You can try O'Brien County for parts, that's where I got mine. $$$$$$$$ I won't tell you what I paid my wife might be watching.

There was a remote valve available, it's a rare
and valued possesion. I've seen valves alone, without hoses or levers go for $350. Complete units usually run $500 or so. Collectors/restorers
like to snap them up.
