I have Cockshutt1600, how do I tell what year it is exactly?(serial#location). Are they very common? What types of problems are they famous for? Also I was reading an old add that mentioned power hydra drive. Wayne Jackson told me what it is but mine does not seem to have it unless I am not looking for lever in correct spot? Or did they make 1600's without power hydra drive? What types of guages would this unit have come with from factory? It is painted red and white, white rims, grill, with tilt steering, hydraulics, 3pt hitch. Could the extra hydraulics at rear of tractor be used for a loader, if so what kind would fit well. Also what would this have been worth new and now. Any other tips or tidbits greatly appreciated.

Shawn - We've had an Oliver 1600 with a loader for many years. It's a strong, reliable tractor with the exception of the "reverse-o-torq" torque-converter transmission (in place of the clutch and hydropower). Much prefer the clutch and hydropower setup. We have a 1650 and 1850 so equipped - in 12,000+ hours combined operation we've found the hydrapower units to be absolutely trouble-free. I believe the 1600 was available without hydrapower though I've never seen one. We do have an 1800 with a straight cluctch - so I presume the 1600 could be similarly spec'd.

Our 1600 gage set consists of idiot lights for generator and oil, and gages for fuel, engine temp, reverser temp and tach.

I have no idea of the value of a 1600 when new, or currently - we purchased our used about 25 years ago.

Yes, the hydraulics can be used for a loader. I have an Oliver 1600 and it has an Oliver 1610 loader on it.
