I have two Oliver RC 70, 1940 & 1943. The 1940 has a SILVER painted grill and wheels. What is the significants of this over the common yellow?

There WERE tractors painted up for promotional purposes but those were the Hart-Parr 70's. For a while the styled 70's were sold with a nickel plated grill. I don't know how long this was done or why. Possibly it was to dress it up like the automobiles. It must have been expensive though because it didn't last.

Thanks for the info! The original owner is accross the road from me here in Central New York and said it was silver when they bought it new. I've scraped the paint and it is silver. Interesting, the cast "70" on the frame front is yellow and it had the triditional red strip down the side. I would be interested in any articals on this promotional painting as my Oliver book didn't note this.

This color change was a promo stunt done by oliver.They had several differant color schemes and sent tractors out to be seen and voted on which colors where best.Green and yellow + red won.The differant colored tractors where then sold.There was a big write up somewhere a few years ago.So you do have at least one rarer tractor.

When did Oliver make the different colored 70s? I thought they were in the mid 1930s? Or did they make them a few different times?
