Just got my 1950 back from the shop

I started overhauling this tractor in early spring , it sat all summer and finally I decided to hire it finshed. Orville's Diesel service in Elizabethtown KY done the work and did an excellent job. I have done several engine's in a day but I learned about the old 2 cycle detriot from the inside out. The guys at orville's speciallize in detriot, so it wasn't a problem for them. Anyone who can disassemble a 2 cycle and return it to running stattus has true mechanical talent. And by the way don't tell my wife but it cost 3200$ to bail it out. They ran it at the shop but I have to put the radiator , tank etc on it before I can here it. Hope to have ignition sequence tomorrow evening.

I always enjoy hearing about 1950's since I own a 1967 model.I was wondering what it cost to overhaul a 4-53 Detroit so I guess I know now.Mine was overhauled 500 hours before I bought it and runs good but the water pump went out while disking wheat ground two weeks ago.I just got it pulled off this evening.There isnt a sweeter sounding motor anywhere than a 4-53 Detroit.Good luck with your 1950.

Craig,no matter how hard I try I just cant keep the muffler on my 1950.It keeps falling off and on goes the straight pipe,hehe!Years ago we farmed with a 1966 model 1950 with bigger injectors and rpms turned up to 3300.Pulled a 6x16 Oliver plow with it and at night we had people (10) miles away that could hear that screamin little 4-53 Detroit.Some people called it noise and some people called it music.We used to road it up to 35 miles to tractor pulls.Lots of people came to ride on it or just to listen to it from a distance out in the field.Half the neighbors loved it and half hated it.

You better tell your wife about that one. If she notices that much money missing she'll think you have a girlfriend. By the way, I used to live in Lexington many years ago when I was at UK. My folks still live in Louisville. Didn't get to E'town too often though. Isn't the start of the toll road to Western Kentucky?

Paul,
The Western Kentucky Parkway is no longer the WK. It was renamed the Swindle, uh I mean, Wendle Ford Parkway about a year ago. Everything around western Ky is getting renamed after him. You would think he did something for western Ky execpt support tobacco and booze.

btw....There have been no tolls on the WK for several years now.

You are correct , E-town starts the WK parkway and ends the Bluegrass Parkway. You don't know anyone looking for a really nice 1750 D, I have an older fellow that kind of asked me to sell it for him, he says I know alot about olivers got him fooled, anyway the tractor is as good as they come he wants 4750$ for it, as in my last post I done spent enough this year on toys. I would really like to have it. J Mann
