Well,I finally got my, new to me, 2-105 home yesterday. With no hydraulics it had no steering or brakes, this made it interesting to load on my goose-neck trailer to say the least. The machine is fairly straight with some surface rust only. It would take a fair amount of work to put it back in top shape. It is showing 8000 hrs on the tach.
I am a bit leary of the hydraulics on this machine and am soliciting any comments you may have on the dependabilty of the 2-105. It has the cat. III three point and the specs say it will lift 6000 lb 24 inches behind the hitch points!
I am an Oliver 1800-1900 series owner/lover and am not too impressed with the White front end, a serious brush guard would need to be built for it to use it down here in S. TX.

I am looking for what they call a gerotor hydro pump to fit my 1855 and the ones off of the 2-105 are supposed to fit. I didnt know if you had one laying around from all of your hydro problems with that tractor or not. The gerotor pump is a hydro circulator pump that fits in between the main hydro pump and the transmission of the tractor and circulates oil up to the front cooler in front of the radiator. Most 1855 Olivers had a belt driven pump but some later ones had the gerotor one. Let me know if you have one or even know what Im talking about. Thanks....

Not sure yet, I have not gone through all the 5 gal. buckets. I hauled a 12 ton cat 955 12A Track loader to my bro-inlaw place near Garner state park ( 200 mi)( AND I GOT AWAY WITH IT ) unloaded it, went over to his other farm, loaded the 2-105 and returned home last night, really gave the one ton and my kidneys a work out. I do not think I have many extras as I think he only replaced the cylinder and pistons in the old one. That other pump may still be mounted to the trans. Something to think about while running the tractor with out any pump or oil in it!!
Thanks
Craig

Craig the 2-105 is a pretty durable tractor from everything that I have seen. The hydraulics not working may be the long drive shaft that engages into the flywheel and goes all of the way to the back of the tractor. In the back there is a small square plate that is held on by 2 3/8 bolts. remove it and inside there is a snap ring that you can pull out with a long pair of needle nose pliers, then use a long piece of half inch all thread rod to reach in and pull out the plug, next look inside and find an o-ring about4 to 6 inches inside of the splines and remove it. Last using the all thread rod pull out the long shaft, you may have to slightly turn the pto shaft to help line up the splines inside to get this shaft out and look at the splines that engage into the flywheel sometimes the splines get worn completely away, if they are the hydraulic pump will not work. The other part is pretty obvious that maybe the hydaulic pump may be broken or the drive shaft in behind the pump may be broken. I hope this helps Good Luck Shadetree

Thanks for the response, I guess I did not give enough detail. The last owner ( my brother-inlaw )burned up the pump, replaced it and burned it up again, probably due to a valve problem, the pump is off the machine now. Mostly I guess I was wanting to know if this machine has any common problems IE the hydraulic system or like its safe to say that many Oliver 1650s have no brakes.Oh! the tach. says 3300 hrs not 8000 and it does work. The pump looks pretty simple so I am going to rebuild it myself, I deal with a good hydraulic shop down here so parts and tech. support is not much of a problem
Thanks again
Craig

OK From my expeirences of working on these tractors once everything is set right on the pressures and as Larry points out that the system needs to be cleaned out properly, then everything seems to work pretty well. The main relief valve has to be set to 2500 psi and done by the procedure outlined in the repair manual then set the compensator pressure to 2200 psi in the by the book. Next set the detent release pressure to 1900 psi. It is a good idea to check the priority valve setting too. The worst problem that I have seen with the hydraulics on the 2-105 and the tractors with the same systems is the fact that they are very hard to hook up and unhook the couplers because there is pressure on the lines when the tractor is running. Sorry about the information overload Good Luck Shadetree

In my case the hydrolic has been the only problem. All the valves must be cleaned after the pump overheats. The heat makes soot in the oil that sticks the valves.Evan though I replaced all the oil and filters I still got metal parts in the pump compensator valve every few hours later.I now have to run at 1600 psi to stop overheating.

Larry I would check the shims in the relief valve they are probably beat out, that would cause the system to heat set the pressures as in Shaedtree's post.

I have had the compensator and the shims out a dozen times.I evan switched them with another tractor, then switched back when there was no improvement. My big problem is I dont have all the test equipment. There are no dealers within 21/2 hour drive. This spring I was determined to put in the time to fix it.Well the water pump blew out the first hour of running.Took 10 days for it to arrive, and I was useing my other tractors in the field.Ended up finishing field work before it was fixed.

Larry have you installed a guage on the releif valve then adjusted the compensator valve to see where the relief valve starts chattering.

No I never whent above 2200 when adjusting the compensator. It did not sound like any relief blew.I had the multiple valve apart twice and after unsticking it nothing seemed amiss.Right now I am combineing and not working on tractors. It maybe weeks before I can work on it.
