5.9 Cummins won't start hot

Have a 5.9 Cummins retrofit in a 2-135. Has been a super combination. At about 3300 engine hours it begin starting very hard or not at all hot. No problem starting when cold. Have had suggestions but no solutions. Anyone been through this problem.

Try checking to see if the fuel shutdown solenoid/valve is opening and operational,otherwise you won't get any fuel to the injection pump.
Also when you get it running do a fuel pressure check on the outlet of the transfer/lift pump supplying the injection pump.If there is insufficient pressure the pump will starve.Oh,did you check the fuel filter?

The selonoid does click when the switch is turned on. You have me wondering if possibly when the starter is engaged I am getting a voltage drop on the selonoid. Probably won't be able to get it to "act up" when I am trying to trouble shoot. Have replaced the transfer/lift pump. Thanks for your input Phil and the others who have offered help.

First have you checked fuel supply from the pump after its hot and want start . Then check valve adjustment also do a compression check .

Its just trying to fit in, most Olivers i ran wouldn't start hot either.

Is this the life of a Cummins injection pump? Really thought it should have lasted longer than that. I know of a 5.9 on a irrigation well with over 10,000 hrs and never been touched.

The valves could be out of adjustment.

I would say it's your injection pump. It's a common problem when they are wore out.

I have owned mostly well broken in tractors most of my farming career and have seen my share of bad injection pumps but this problem seems different. I appreciate the valve adjustment suggestion by Larry and will pursue it(cheap). Otherwise looks like big bucks time.

Dale, you most likely have the Bosch P-7100 injection pump.I know they're not cheap!
Hopefully it's not that, and maybe something else.Please let me know what you find out.I am curious. Good luck!
