Got my 1943 RC 70 running finally. Sounds good except for a few things..... When the tractor is not running and the carb is getting fuel, the fuel runs out of the air intake at a pretty good rate. Have to choke the heck out of it to get it running, but when it starts up the choke only needs to be out a quarter of the way or so at full throttle. Do I have a valve seat problem on the float? What sounds like the trouble? I am not so good at tuning carbs. Thanks..

The problem is with the setting of your float. Take the carb apart. Then turn it upside down with the float still attached. Take a ruler and measure the distance between the gasket and the float, it should be about a 1/4 inch. More if problem continues. Also you have a intake leak. Check with a can of spay lubricant by spaying around manifold. If the engine picks up in speed you found the problem. May need to have machined or just a new gasket.

I have had and worked on several tractors with carb problems. My advice is to send it to Motec Engineering & Restoration. I have sent in 5 so far and I can't say enough about how pleased I am with the results. The cost is $50 + shipping. Their e-mail is [email protected] Good luck

I had the same problem on '64 modle 770. I rebuilt the carb, but that did not solve the problem. The only thing that i have to help is Marvel Mystery Oil. One quart of marvel oil for each 10 gallons of gas. This stoped the leaking on my ol' 770. Good luck, KMAC

I have had similar problems with my Coxkshutt 30 and 9n Ford . Same carb . both quit the same day . Both got gas from the same can .

I think that the unleaded gas is more prone to gumming up than the old leaded stuff , especially in HOT weather .

Today I went to use the weed whacker and it wouldn't start at all . Pulled the plug --it was dry , even though primed it .

My solution --pour in some gum remover fluid in the gas . All three units started right off after .

I think the gum gets into the float valve and doesn't allow it to close properly ,therefore the gas just runs out .

Try it , 3 or 4 bucks only .
