I've ordered manuals for my 1956 super 55,serial #19868-518,in the meantime I'm lost as to how and where to check fluids and what fluids are used. Please help.
Thanks to all for the info on the steering.

Hi Phil. Your tractor has 2 important filters that need to be changed. One is obviously your engine's lube oil and the other is the 3 point hitch hydraulic filter (assuming you have a 3 point hitch as some don't). Your manual will list all the lube points but will list outdated lubrcants. You have an engine oil dipstick and you should use a good detergent oil with weight based on temperature just like a car. For grease fittings I now use a synthetic grease, but any grease that meets NLGI #2 standards should work fine. For the rear axle/transmission and the 3 point hitch hydraulics I now use one of the new tractor fluids that meet Oliver Type 55 specifications. You have to drain all the old stuff out first but that is a good thing anyway. The rear axle/transmission is filled when the oil level is up to the hole opened when the test plug is removed from the back of the rear axle/transmission. To drain the axle/transmission you have to remove all 3 plugs from the bottom of the tractor. To drain the hydraulics your supposed to remove the 1/4 inch pipe plug and run the tractor until all the fluid is pumped out but no longer than that or damage to the pump will occur. Grease fittings are on each front spindle, each of 4 steering drag link ends, the PTO clutch (1 pump of grease only!), the drive clutch, the clutch pedal, the PTO lever, and each brake pedal. Then you have to make sure the steering box is full (see previous posts). You also have front wheel bearings
