Pump no longer has any lifting power. Just squeals when I attempt to lift. Time for rebuild? Anyone know source of parts? Any info will be appreciated.

My 770 loader tractor had the same problem. It would lift, but not much. All I did was replaced the pressure relief spring and plunger in the base of the pump and it works like new. If I remember right, it is toward the operator, retained by a plug with a hex on it,right on the aluminum base. Good luck.

If worse comes to worse and you have to replace the pump, you may be able to save money by getting it directly from the manufacturer. I replaced a Cessna pump by contacting Cessna with the stamped numbers on the old pump, and got it for about half what White wanted.

In addition to all the good comments Jeff made, you will also need to check the side plates and the center plate.If the side plates are scored you can get a machine shop to regrind the surface where the sides of the pump gears contact. I have done many of them. The center plate where the gears run must be inspected and must not be galled. If it is bad it must be replaced. I have been working to build a center plate for these old fleetline tractors. Contact if you need one. Also check the gears to make sure they are not larger than the should be. When the pump starts to destroy itself, it will trade material with the centerplate and actually tear up a new centerplate if too large. By the way, seals and bearings are easily available from any bearing supplier.

I'm rebuilding a pump for an 88 right now. Yours sounds like it needs a rebuild. Mine was still lifting but it would only lift hard when the oil was cold. I basically took the hydraulic system off to find a problem in the tranny, and to fix leaks on the hydraulic housing. I figured I might as well rebuild it right away. The needle bearings in the pump itself will more than likely be shot. Also, you'll need new seals. It's also possible the gears are wore enough that they need replacement. Other things I would advise is to replace the O-rings on the pump where it mounts to the housing, and the o-rings between the control valves and the base (housing). Also, if you have restrictor valves on it (which are the 90 degree things that the hoses hook to) replace the 0-rings in them also. Remember, any leak will reduce the lifting power. You also might have to add shims to the pressure relief valve. Actually, that would be something I would try before I would rebuild it.

i rebuilt a hydrualic pump last winter and all the seals were available from my Agco dealer
